Output tranny swap. Difference in size AND sound.
I use Quality Edcore, Heyboer, Mercury, and Hammond components. EVJ and similar low-watt amps can be set up to provide a HUGE sound. These living room practice amps can be turned into the perfect recording/jam amp, keeping up with heavy hitting drummers.
Solid state amps have potential for improvement as well!
This old British amp was given a new lease on life with a reverb tank substitute and assymetrical clipping implemented. Input was also "opened up"to allow the amps active tone circuitry more bandwidth to dial in the best tone possible.
A questionable mod by "someone else". This was undone and subsequently redone correctly.
Far too much gain in one particular area leaving a very flat and tubby sound. Circuit topology was evaluated, and slight gain increments distributed evenly to provide extra "chunk" when cranked, but also clean up nicely when guitar volume control is rolled down.
